About the Artist
Born in Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1987, Anna Reading (she/her) lives and works in London. In 2010, Reading graduated with a BA in Fine Art from Central St Martins, and in 2017 gained an MfA in Sculpture from Slade School of Fine Art. Her work deals with issues around anthropocentric perspectives and the subsequent impacts upon environments, bodies, and human psyches. Her sculptural works attempt to engage and collaborate with the environment around us, looking for lessons in survival within hostile settings.
Reading creates hybrids of imagery, materials and forms to highlight the unruly spaces at the edges of the built environment. Recent exhibitions include These Mad Hybrids at RWA Bristol (2024), The Amber Rooms at Matts Gallery (2023), Brute at Kristian Day Gallery (2022), Still Here at APT Gallery (2023). Reading was the winner of the 2018-19 Mark Tanner Sculpture Award.
