Bobby Dowler: Painting-Object_03(c06-22)

Bobby Dowler collects paintings on canvases that have been made and rejected by others. The work was made by being cut out of a section from a large colourful abstract-expressionist-style oil painting that an artist friend gave to Dowler, and then covering it with black oil paint. Subsequently, it was collaged into circular offcuts from various paintings that were collected and stored over the years.

Dowler is interested in geometric forms, incidental beauty, bold colours and contrasting surfaces, which guide him to the work's conclusion. With this piece Dowler elicited joy, happiness and pleasure - sensations that he hopes to evoke for the viewer.

About the Artist

Bobby Dowler (b 1983) lives and works in London and a changing list of European cities that have recently included Athens, Berlin and Paris. He collects and re-uses paintings-on-canvas that have been made and rejected by others. By adding these into his cut-paint-and-paste methodology he eventually discovers "painting-objects".
