The Cave Claw Sconce is a response to Strachan's interest in producing functional artworks for the home. This piece references lo-fi set design as seen in 20th century fantasy and horror cinema.

The lamp itself can be hung from a nail in the wall using the bracket affixed to the back. It does not require an electrician for installation and just needs to be plugged in.

About the Artist

Annie Strachan (she/her) lives and works in London, but was raised between South Africa, the United States and Essex, by Dutch and Scottish parents. Sustainable processes and techniques are central to Strachan’s practice. Working with recycled materials including wood, textiles and paper mâché, she creates small batch and one-off functional sculptures intended for everyday use in the home.

Led by her training in ceramics and sculpture at Chelsea College of Art & Design, Strachan applies techniques taken from slab building and woodwork. Set design, as seen in post-war Hollywood cinema, influences her approach to texture, colour and materiality. While architectural themes including Modernism and Postmodernism are reflected through the creation of playful abstract forms.

Annie has previously collaborated with brands including; London Design Fair, Selfridges, Margate House, Glassette, Atelier100, Narchie, Domenica Marland and The Museum of the Home. Her work has been longlisted for a Dezeen Award as part of 2LG Studio’s 2024 exhibition, ‘You Can Sit With Us’ and has also been featured widely in print and online by Dezeen, Harper’s Bazaar, House & Garden, It’s Nice That, The Modern House Journal, Sight Unseen and Wrap Magazine.
