About the Artist

Lara Smithson has a multi-disciplinary practice that examines historical and current contradictions between health, ritual, religion, guilt, divine and political forces and the impact of these discrepancies on the human condition. Smithson’s work isn’t linear but rather cyclical, her drawings, texts and costumes reappearing in films and installations. 

Smithson is currently a live/work resident at ACME Fire Station, she was the Bridget Riley Fellow 2021/22 at The British School at Rome and the St John’s College, Oxford artist in residence, 2023. Smithson was awarded the Benoît Doche de Laquintane Collection Prize 2024 at Art O Rama, Marseille presented by Des Bain, London and will have her first solo exhibiton with the gallery in March, 2025. She is also working towards solo exhibitions at St John’s College Oxford and The Heong Gallery, Cambridge.  Smtihson has had solo presentations at Coleman Projects, London 2023; Una Vetrina, Rome 2022 and The Why Not Gallery, Tblisi 2018.
