Frances Gibson : Forty Elephants
Frances Gibson : Forty Elephants
The Forty Elephants were an all-female crime syndicate until the 1950’s for perhaps 200 years leading up to that. Based in Elephant and Castle, the gang specialised in shoplifting. The women wore large dresses, hats, coats and bloomers that contained hidden pockets for their loot. It is estimated that the gang had more than 70 members.
