Jane Hayes Greenwood: The Hosts
Jane Hayes Greenwood: The Hosts
The Hosts, like other paintings in Hayes Greenwood’s wider series, The Witch’s Garden, features peculiar plants that sit on the edge of believability. In this work, the botanical takes on an anthropomorphic quality, with succulent-shaped structures arranged in a familial grouping. Their sweet-like attachments suggest parasitic relationships - connections that are both symbiotic and exploitative, blurring the line between nourishment and dominance. Greenwood’s otherworldly painting probes the complex dynamics between nature and artifice, the human and non-human and offers a curious meditation on interdependence and consumption.

About the Artist
Jane Hayes Greenwood (b. Manchester, 1986) is a London based artist. She is first and foremost a painter but works across painting, ceramics, sculptural installation and CGI animation. In her work, otherworldly plants and strange objects exist in psychologically charged, psychedelic environments; entangled in feminist histories, desire, fertility and death. Hayes Greenwood is the co-founder of Block 336, an artist-run project space, studio provider, and UK-registered charity based in Brixton, London. Here she collaborated with more than 170 artists, ranging from recent art school graduates to highly established practitioners. Her most recent and notable exhibitions include The Nature of Things, curated by Jane Hayes Greenwood, Castor Gallery, London in August of this Year, Lychee One: 10 year anniversary show, Lychee One, London, in June, and Waverton Art Prize show, Boisdale, London in May. Solo shows have been held at Art Bermondsey, London, Block 336, London, GiG, Munich and Castor Gallery, Fitzrovia among more.
