Luke Burton : Moon Singing Dawn Chorus with Bird of Paradise
Luke Burton : Moon Singing Dawn Chorus with Bird of Paradise
This piece extends an ongoing series of works using the medium of vitreous enamel. It uses a motif that Burton have used before, a personified moon, but develops these works by 'giving voice' to the these moons through the use of a speech bubble. The work plays with an ongoing interest in the tension between images and language. In this case, images are 'read' like language as archetypes or symbols (the moon) alongside images in place of where language would ordinarily appear (speech bubbles). The speech bubble remaining a visual shorthand for language itself. Both moon and bird are represented as singular entities so there is added ambivalence between the collective idea of a chorus and these isolated solitary figures.
