Maria Saeki: Memoriam fika
Maria Saeki: Memoriam fika
Memoriam Fika encapsulates a feeling of warmth and lush greenery experienced during a two month residency in the woodlands of Småland, Sweden. As autumn season approaches, the occasions to get together with friends and colleagues over ‘fika’ breaks to share food and company becomes a heartwarming ritual. The candle embodies the walks and cycles over hills and through woods, and passed candle lit windows.

About the Artist
Maria Saeki is a multi-disciplinary designer and architect. Her work explores the human relationship with seasonal and tidal circularity by rethinking the way ecosystems interact with the built environment. Through running clay workshops and curating interactive dinners, she has developed a collaborative approach to design through dialogue. As co-founder of Studio Hotmess she has recently collaborated on the design and production of Edible Hinterlands (2022) ,a planted façade for a café in Cornwall, UK, undulating forms for wayfinding signage at the Science Gallery London (2022) and contributed an Ottoman inspired birdbath for BIRDSEYEVIEW by Feral Partnerships at San Mei Gallery (2022).
