About the Artist
Negating the boundaries between figuration and abstraction, clarity and suggested space, my work involves a delicate interplay between figure and landscape. Influenced by the ancient landscape of my childhood in the English countryside and the narrative structures of early Renaissance painters such as Piero Della Francesca and Giotto as well as the myths and mysteries of the ancient world, my work occupies a hinterland where characters and landscapes are balanced in a moment of flux, and emotion and atmosphere become the subject.
I work on canvas, board and paper prepared for oil, creating a texture that is close to that of fresco. Using thin layers of paint and linseed oil which builds a luminescent quality in the painting’s surface and is balanced by areas of deep, dark colour. Born in 1994 in Kent, I received my BA in painting from Camberwell College of Art, London in 2017 before undertaking the Drawing Year at the Royal Drawing School, London, graduating in 2018. I currently live and work in Kent.
I am currently exhibiting with a solo show at Huxley-Parlour Gallery
